In Illinois, reckless driving is one of the most serious traffic offenses. Its consequences are much more severe than those of a mere speeding ticket: reckless driving, unlike many other traffic offenses, can result in an arrest and criminal charges.

Not Guilty by Reason of Mental Incompetence under Illinois Law
In Illinois, a person accused of a crime can claim a defense of insanity or some other mental incompetence under Illinois 720 ILCS 5/6-2 (d). According to this statute, a person who is found mentally incompetent cannot be held legally accountable for a crime they have committed.

Withdrawal of Guilty Pleas in Illinois
A man from Savoy, Illinois, was convicted late last month of the first-degree murder of his brother. Sentencing is set for this month, and the man faces a minimum of 45 years in prison. In 2011, he was sentenced to 35 years after pleading guilty to the shooting.

Recreational Marijuana: Legalization Bills Introduced in Illinois
Two bills have been introduced to the Illinois General Assembly, one filed in each chamber, that would that would legalize small amounts of recreational marijuana. Senate Bill 783, sponsored by state Sen. Michael Noland (D-Elgin), and House Bill 218, filed by state Rep. Kelly Cassidy (D-Chicago), would eliminate the possibility of incarceration for the possession of up to thirty grams (just over an ounce) of marijuana for adults age 21 and older.
