Domestic abuse allegations wreak havoc on a person’s reputation. Unfortunately, the charges are sometimes fabricated by either a spouse or a child as a way of gaining authority or leverage while undermining the integrity of the accused. Sadly, the fatality rate of domestic violence is too high nationwide, leaving officers to take the side of the alleged victim. The first line of defense is to contact an attorney, because “I did not do it” does not resolve your case.

What is Sexting and How is it Criminal?
Sexting is quickly taking the world by storm, and families, homes, and lives are left in the ruins of its aftermath. When the behavior occurs between two consenting adults, the result is often a rekindled flame or the ignition of a new one within the relationship. However, there is a huge age bracket of society participating in the potentially illicit activity. Participation is so common among teenagers that many seem to think it is harmless. That is, of course, until they face steep legal sex crime repercussions.

We all know and understand the dangers of distracted driving, yet the temptation is always just inches away. In Illinois, it is illegal to use any hand-held cell phone to talk or text, or to use any other electronic device while operating a motor vehicle. What is a Grant of Immunity and Should I Accept Such Grant?
Aside from the right to a jury trial, perhaps no other constitutional guarantee is so well-known as one’s right to remain silent and refuse to answer questions from law enforcement regarding one’s potentially-criminal activities. The purpose of this protection is simple: to prevent you from involuntarily incriminating yourself and implicating yourself in criminal activity. While this right is nearly absolute, there is one way in which the prosecution and law enforcement can get you to talk: by granting you immunity.

Killer Emojis
A United States judge recently sentenced an Illinois man to nine years in jail for using emojis to give aid in the killing of a wealthy woman from Chicago who was on vacation in Indonesia. Court files describe how the defendant sent a “high-five” symbol to his cousin and his girlfriend after they murdered the Chicago woman by bludgeoning her to death with a fruit-stand handle. The killers then stuffed the body inside of a suitcase.
