Illinois Criminal RegistriesIllinois has criminal registries for those who have been found guilty of murder or violence against a youth, making methamphetamine, and sex crimes. These databases keep track of offenders and are public record, meaning that anyone can look online to find out whether their neighbors have committed any of these offenses. While this seems like a good idea and is one that Illinois, more than many other states, has fully embraced, the success of such registry databases has been proven to be of little use. LaraRecently, the Illinois State Crime Commission has been promoting boxing as a way to keep children and teens out of trouble throughout the state. As stated in a CBS article, the State Crime Commission is constantly searching for ways to assist law enforcement, through both legislation and crime-prevention efforts.  The director of the organization, Jerry Elsner, who was a boxer in his day, says that boxing helps those kids who may be tempted by drugs or violence to become focused and self-disciplined. Elsner also goes on to say, “We have to get these kids in the gym.  We have to get them on the right track.  We have to give them opportunity, we have to give them guidance and most of all, we have to give them hope.” The organization is making efforts to support the Police Athletic League of Illinois in their pursuit of promoting boxing to give teenagers something interesting and fun to do so that they will stay away from problems and trouble, such as gangs and violence in the Chicago area or heroin use Downstate. One boxing club with three gyms in Chicago has claimed that they have sent all of their fighters on to college or the military. John Bitoy, who runs a camp in Seneca, Ill. that focuses on boxing says, “Boxing is a gateway to get the kids off the street.” Boxing is a way for teens and children to keep out of trouble.  There are also many other outlets that can provide the same distraction and entertainment. However, if your child is facing criminal charges, do not hesitate to contact the Law Offices of Law Office of Glenn M. Sowa, LLC and get in touch with an experienced attorney who will be more than happy to help you.
