Women living in Naperville can sleep safe tonight; this is because, according to a recent study, Naperville is the safest city for women. The study concentrated on statistics of predominantly gender based crime, such as forcible rape, however, it also looked at murder and stalking statistics. Researchers did not study domestic violence crimes because it was difficult to find accurate information on the crimes.
Specifics of the Study
Researchers looked at 285 cities with at least 100,000 residents in arriving at Naperville’s ranking. Conversely, the researchers ranked Anchorage, Alaska the most dangerous city for women. The Naperville police chief attributed the high rank in safety to effective community programs, such as school education programs on sexual assault and domestic violence, which seek to collaborate with the community in order to prevent crime. Some of the other community education and partnership programs that the Naperville police department has implemented include burglary prevention, and the BASSET program aimed at teaching how to serve alcohol in a responsible manner.
